Boyolali In the global perspective, the angklung has emerged as a source of national pride, having earned recognition from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since November 16, 2010. Each year, November 16 is celebrated as World Angklung Day.
To mark this global occasion, Pradita Dirgantara High School actively participated in the "Preserve, Promote, and Globalize Angklung" event on Monday, November 8, 2021. The event was organized by Dharma Pertiwi, in collaboration with several ministries, including the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, the Ministry of Trade, OASE Cabinet, Dekranas, and LaDara. The proceedings were live-streamed through Dharma Pertiwi's YouTube channel.
SMA PD also extended invitations to six schools in Boyolali to join the event. These schools, including Boyolali Public School 1, Boyolali Public School 2, Ngemplak Public School 1, Banyudono Public School 1, and Nogosari Public School 1, sent their representatives to participate in the performance of John Lennon's "Imagine."
Nanny Hadi Tjahjanto, Chairperson of Dharma Pertiwi and also the Chairperson of the Ardhya Garini Foundation, which oversees Pradota Dirgantara High School, emphasized that the progress and development of angklung is currently not keeping pace with the younger generation. There is a shortage of new angklung artists, and the existing ones are mostly older individuals. Hence, it becomes a shared responsibility to transmit this cultural heritage to the youth, motivating them to continue creating and preserving this cherished national tradition.
"Culture is an image and identity of a nation. Therefore, take pride in our diverse cultural heritage," she noted in her address.
During this event, the First Lady, Iriana Joko Widodo, conveyed her message online, encouraging the 2021 World Angklung Day commemoration to serve as an opportunity to rekindle love and concern for the angklung. She urged everyone to once again incorporate the angklung into various events across Indonesia and worldwide.
The event also featured an interactive dialogue with Prof. Popy Rufaidah, Ph.D., the Education and Cultural Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in the United States, Prof. Ismunandar, the Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Delegate of Indonesia to UNESCO, and Dr. Hilmar Farid, the Director General of Culture at the Ministry of Education and Culture.
