High School Student from Pradita Dirgantara Excels in the Bebras Challenge 2020 Competition

Students from Pradita Dirgantara High School have excelled in the 2020 Bebras Challenge Competition organized by the National Management Board (NBO) Bebras Indonesia and the Indonesian Computer Olympiad Team (TOKI) at the National Level, announced on Friday, November 20, 2020.

The Bebras competition, originally held in Lithuania, aims to enhance problem- solving skills in the field of informatics and boasts the largest global participation. It is open to students from Elementary School (SD) to High School (SMA) levels and their equivalents (www.bebras.org). This competition is conducted online annually. Founded in Lithuania by Prof. Valentina Dagiene from Vilnius University in 2004, "bebras" in Lithuanian means "beaver," symbolizing the challenge as beavers strive for perfection in their daily activities, such as building dams from tree branches in rivers and constructing their own homes. The competition is named Bebras to highlight the hard work and intelligence required in life.

The enthusiasm of participants in 2020 was outstanding, with approximately 4,476 entrants. Pradita Dirgantara High School alone fielded 35 students in this competition. Abraham Rivaldo Putra, a student from class XI B, secured a position in the top 10 nationally. Additionally, two other students achieved top 25 national rankings: Trevor Wade Orlando from class X B, placed 16th, and Rakabima Ghaniendra Rusdianto from class X D, ranked 22nd out of 4,476 participants.

In this online competition, participants faced multiple-choice questions, necessitating a computational thinking approach for solutions. Yohanes Parsaoran S, S.Pd, the supervisor of this competition, explained, "We provided guidance before the students participated in the competition and followed up with practice questions using the Olympia.id system (Bebras Indonesia's Learning Management System website). We also coordinated through specialized groups with participating students. The mentoring and training process was conducted online, including attending technical meetings for all participants in the Solo Raya region and self-training at home, which was continuously monitored for readiness by the teachers."

Abraham shared his experience, stating, "Participating in this free competition felt very challenging and required intense mental effort to connect the questions. However, I was very happy and enjoyed working on these questions because they were accompanied by engaging graphics. It can be said that the Bebras Challenge is akin to a logic game that demands intelligent and careful problem-solving. In essence, this competition is highly stimulating and challenges us to sharpen our logical thinking."
