Boyolali - On the morning of Thursday, November 25, 2021, the atmosphere at Pradita Dirgantara High School (SMA PD) remained tranquil. Students were bustling to and fro, preparing for the customary morning assembly, a routine observed every day. Unbeknownst to the teachers and other members of the school community, this morning would unfold as an emotional Thursday, marked by tears of pride and joy. Yes, today is National Teacher's Day.

At long last, the surprise moment arrived. Hundreds of students from grades X, XI, and XII gathered at the heart of the field. Together, they danced in perfect harmony, singing the beloved song "Anak Sekolah" (School Children), originally made famous by the late Chrisye.

The surprises did not cease there. Suddenly, the students produced single stems of roses, meticulously prepared since dawn. They presented these roses one by one to each teacher. Shortly thereafter, the Head of SMA PD's Student Council (OSIS), Abi, delivered a heartfelt speech that moved the teachers to tears.

Teachers, Exemplars to be Revered and Followed

We unanimously acknowledge that teachers occupy a distinguished position. They are held in high esteem, both within the school and in society at large. Within the school, they are the most sought-after figures and serve as exemplars for students. Similarly, within society, teachers have a special place and often serve as advisors in various capacities.

The revered status of a teacher undoubtedly has its roots. The tagline for a teacher, "digugu dan ditiru" (respected and emulated), truly encapsulates the essence of a teacher. Interestingly, the community pays no heed to which subjects the teacher instructs. As long as they hold the profession of teaching, they invariably become a cornerstone of the community.

The phrases "revered and followed" hold profound meaning. "Revered" signifies perpetual trust, while "followed" implies that every action serves as a model. Hence, every message conveyed by a teacher should instill confidence in those who hear it. Their conduct should also stand as an example for students and the community.

A teacher's capacity to be revered and followed closely relates to four competencies that every teacher should possess: pedagogical, personal, social, and professional. When a teacher genuinely embodies these four competencies, the distinction of being revered and followed naturally becomes a part of their identity.

Paradoxically, instances of violence against students by teachers still occur. To substantiate this, one need only conduct a cursory search on Google, where news of such incidents is widely disseminated.

This raises the question: how can a teacher serve as a role model if they engage in violence against their students? It is imperative to promptly seek a resolution to this crisis of leadership.

A teacher should also possess qualities of maturity, nobility, moral rectitude, and be devoid of selfish motives. There's even a saying that a good teacher is one who doesn't view themselves as a teacher. Instead, they regard their students as the teachers of their own lives. In the realm of mysticism, their profession transforms into an act of asceticism, distancing themselves from worldly desires.

To all the teachers at SMA PD, continue to steadfastly support the students in this institution. Be a guiding light for this nation.

Wishing you a Happy National Teacher's Day 2021.
